Vermont Current Use believes the information homeowners across the areas we serve need should be available to everyone, regardless of ability or the technology they use. We want every visitor, including people who use screen readers, keyboard navigation, magnification, voice control, or other assistive technology, to be able to learn about our services, understand our pricing, and reach us easily. This statement explains what we do to support accessibility, where we know we can still improve, and how to tell us when something does not work for you.
Our commitment
We treat accessibility as part of doing good work, not an afterthought. Our goal is to conform, as closely as is practical for a small local business, to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 at Level AA, the widely recognized standard for making web content more accessible. We consider accessibility when we build and update the site, and we fix issues as we become aware of them. Because the site changes over time, this is a continuous effort rather than a one-time certification.
What we have done
We have built this site with a number of accessibility practices in mind, including:
- Readable structure. Pages use proper headings in a logical order, meaningful page titles, and clear landmarks so assistive technology can navigate and summarize them.
- Text alternatives. Images that convey information include descriptive alternative text, and decorative images are marked so screen readers can skip them.
- Keyboard access. The site is designed to be operable with a keyboard alone, and interactive elements show a visible focus indicator so you can see where you are.
- Readable color and text. We aim for sufficient contrast between text and background, use real text rather than images of text, and support your browser's ability to resize text.
- Clear links and labels. Links and form fields are labeled so their purpose is understandable out of context, rather than relying on vague wording.
- Respect for motion preferences. Where the site uses motion, it honors the reduced-motion setting in your operating system or browser.
- Responsive layout. The site adapts to phones, tablets, and desktops and to different zoom levels, so content stays usable when magnified.
The standard we aim for, in plain terms
WCAG 2.1 Level AA is organized around four principles: that content be perceivable, operable, understandable, and robust. In practice, perceivable means you can take in the information regardless of how you access it, through text alternatives, captions where relevant, and sufficient contrast. Operable means you can navigate and use the site with whatever input you rely on, including a keyboard or switch device, without a time trap or a mouse-only control. Understandable means the language, layout, and behavior are predictable and clearly labeled. Robust means the underlying code is written so current and future assistive technologies can interpret it reliably. We keep these four ideas in mind whenever we add or change a page, and they guide the choices we make about markup, color, and interaction.
Assistive technology and browsers
We design the site to work with the tools people actually use, including recent versions of major screen readers, browser zoom and magnification, speech-recognition input, and keyboard-only navigation, across current versions of the common browsers on desktop and mobile. Because there are many combinations of device, browser, and assistive technology, and because they all update frequently, we cannot test every possible pairing. If your particular setup runs into trouble, that is exactly the kind of report that helps us, and it will never stop us from getting you the information or service you need directly.
Known limitations
Despite our efforts, some content may not yet be fully accessible. Third-party content, embedded tools, maps, or older material may present barriers we have not caught, and new pages are added regularly. Rich media and any documents we link to may not always meet the same standard as our core pages. We are honest about this: if you encounter something that does not work with your assistive technology, it is a gap we want to know about and fix, not a limit on the help we can give you. Please do not hesitate to reach out, and we will make sure you get the information or service you need by another route in the meantime.
Information in another format
If any information on this site is not accessible to you, we are glad to provide it another way. That might mean reading a page to you over the phone, sending details in a format that works better with your software, or simply taking your information and preparing a quote for you directly without you needing to use the website at all. There is no cost and no inconvenience to you for asking; helping people is the whole point of the business, and the format should never be a barrier to that.
Getting help another way
Accessibility is ultimately about people, not just pages. If any part of this website is difficult for you to use, you never have to struggle with it to work with us. Contact us by email at hello@vermontcurrentuse.com or by phone at 888-825-7696, tell us what you need, and a real local member of our team will help you directly, whether that means reading you the information, taking your details, or arranging a free quote over the phone. We are glad to accommodate whatever works best for you.
Third-party content
Parts of the web experience may rely on services provided by others, such as embedded maps, review widgets, or media. We choose reputable providers and prefer accessible options where we can, but we do not control how those third-party components are built, and their accessibility may vary. If a third-party element on our site creates a barrier for you, please tell us. Even where we cannot change the component itself, we can give you the same information or complete the same task with you directly, so you are never stuck.
How we keep improving
Accessibility is not a box we check once. As we add pages, update the site, and as the tools and standards evolve, we review our work against the same goals and fix what we find. When we learn of a barrier, whether from our own checks or from a visitor, we treat it as a real issue to resolve rather than an edge case to ignore. We would always rather hear that something did not work for you than have you quietly give up, because a report is what lets us make the site better for the next person in the same situation.
Getting the same information another way
If any page, form, or document on this site is difficult for you to use, you do not have to struggle with it to work with us. Contact us by email at hello@vermontcurrentuse.com or by phone at 888-825-7696 and we will give you the same information, answer the same questions, and complete the same task with you directly, in whatever format works best for you. That might mean reading a page aloud over the phone, walking you through a form together, sending details in large print or plain text, or simply handling the whole thing by conversation instead of by screen. There is never a charge for this, and it is never treated as an inconvenience. The website exists to make reaching us easier; when it does the opposite for you, the right answer is a real person, and one is always available. You will not be asked to prove a disability or explain why you need help in a particular form, because that is your business and not ours.
Giving us feedback
Your feedback helps us improve, and we take it seriously. If you run into an accessibility barrier on this site, please let us know by email at hello@vermontcurrentuse.com or by phone at 888-825-7696. It helps us if you can describe the problem, the page you were on, and the browser or assistive technology you were using, but any detail you can share is welcome, and you are never expected to be technical about it. Tell us in whatever way is easiest for you. We aim to acknowledge accessibility feedback promptly and to correct genuine issues as quickly as we reasonably can, and in the meantime we will make sure the barrier does not stop you from getting what you came for.
Why this matters to us
For a local service business, accessibility is really just an extension of the way we try to treat people generally: with straightforwardness and respect. Someone who cannot easily read a page is still a neighbor who deserves a clear answer and a fair price, and the technology they use to browse the web should never decide whether they can work with us. That belief is why we would rather over-communicate about how to reach us than hide behind a form, and why a phone call or a direct message will always get you a real person who can help. A website is a tool; it is not the only door, and it is never allowed to be a locked one. If our site ever gets in your way, consider that our problem to solve, not yours, and give us the chance to make it right.
Ongoing work
We review accessibility as we update the site and as standards and tools evolve, and we will revise this statement as our practices change. Our commitment is simple and lasting: to keep working so that everyone in the areas we serve can use this site and reach us with ease. You can also read our Privacy Policy and Terms of Service, browse the answers to common questions, or head back to our home page to learn more about what we do. However you prefer to reach us, we are glad you are here.
